Washington Park Zoo Society

Thank you for your interest in the Washington Park Zoological Society.

The Washington Park Zoo is part of and is managed by the Michigan City Division of Parks and Recreation.

The Washington Park Zoological Society is the non-profit membership organization that supports the mission of the zoo. When you become a member of the Zoo, you become a member of this organization and your contribution supports the overall mission of the Zoo. Many local citizens are active volunteers of the Zoological Society and some serve as the board of directors. The leaders of the organization work closely with zoo management and volunteer time to promote the zoo.

What does the Zoological Society Board do?

The Zoological Society is a separate volunteer grouppurpose of the Board is to generate public interest in and appreciation of the animal kingdom, promote the zoo, to solicit, raise, collect, and receive contributions, donations, and gifts for the acquisition of animals for the zoo and improvements on zoo facilities.

What does a board member have to do?

Board members attend monthly meetings (usually the 2nd Tuesday of every month and volunteer at zoo events.
