Roaring into the Future
Over the years, you’ve watched your WPZoo undergo enormous changes and growth. Now, as we march toward our 100th anniversary, we will continue to redefine what a zoo can be with beautiful and immersive habitats, compelling guest experiences, and an unyielding commitment to saving animals.
The Washington Park Zoo is a historic LaPorte County Landmark in the heart of Michigan City and is dedicated to increasing the appreciation and conservation of wildlife and seeking ways to better serve and help educate our community.

Our "Roaring Into The Future" capital campaign has three main current goals:
1. To ensure the very best care possible for Washington Park Zoo’s animal collection and to expand our annual open season for our community with the construction of an enclosed greenhouse-type building for our free-flight tropical birds in the "Wings of Wonder" exhibit and another all season structure for the American Alligators.
2. Renovation of the historic Monkey Island into a state-of-the-art primate habitat.
3. To improve and expand our guest experiences with a new larger classroom and gift shop in the location of our current classroom site.

The Washington Park Zoo strives to ever improve our impact and outreach by providing a quality destination where people from all walks of life and ages can relax, learn, and reconnect with nature. The Roaring Into The Future Capital Campaign will continue to increase the Zoo’s critical role in the city's tourism, economic development, and the area’s quality of life.

Every dollar counts and your support helps us inspire visitors by bringing them close enough to care, improve our landscape by helping us create innovative facilities and practices for the animals in our care, and conserve wild species and wild space through our education programs.
